Fulfillment of a Promise made a Long Time Ago

One thing about Carla that makes her different from most people is that she is not so fond of gifts - be it as a receiver or a giver. She tells her friends not to buy presents for her because it makes her feel uncomfortable. In the same way, she is not also so keen in giving presents to family and friends, even when there are special occasions. One time, when her niece, Nikki was about to celebrate her birthday, she approached Carla and said, Aunt Carla, my birthday is fast approaching. I know you don't like giving gifts but I will demand that you go out of your way to get me any birthday presents for girls age 11. Why? Well, aside from the fact that I have been a good girl all my life, you promised me a long time ago that if and when I get top honors in class, you are going to reward me with anything I want. Do you remember? Carla was speechless because she remembers that she did make a promise.
