Some advice needed after a split from my partner

I have fairly recently split from my partner of 6 years. It is really hard but i am getting through one day at a time. What i need some help with though is where i stand on parental rights because i would have thought it would be equal but my ex seems to disagree. She seems to think she should have full rights because she earns more money than me, i cant see that has anything to do with it, i earn enough to provide for our kids if they lived with me so i don't know why she should get custody of them. I do not really want to go through the courts or anything if we do not need to as it is a lot of stress for everyone involved. I have said to her i would be more than happy to do a 50/50 split and pay maintenance too but she isn't happy with this. She is only doing it to hurt me. I have contacted my solicitor about it so i will wait and see what they have to say.
