want to put a movie on ipod

I love anything apple makes, I own almost every gadget they make apart from the ipad (I don't see the point myself). My ipod is still my go to gadget though, go everywhere with it, in fact I would go so far as to say I feel naked if it isn't either on me or next to me. Now after this long I am wondering can i put a dvd on my ipod so I can watch it on the bus or train or wherever. I saw someone on the train watching a movie or tv show on his ipod yesterday and thought I would give it another go. It was one of the things I was really psyched about when I first got it and I did try and do it many moons ago but I had difficulty so gave up. Now after having completely forgotten about that particular feature the guy on the train reminded me and I just thought that if he can do it why can't I. Its can't be that hard.
